Easy Apple Pie Filling Recipe

Ingredients: – 6 cups of thinly sliced apples (peeled and cored) – 3/4 cup granulated sugar – 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon – 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg – 1/4 teaspoon salt – 1 tablespoon lemon juice – 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions: 1. Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and thinly slice your apples, placing them in a large mixing bowl.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Coat the Apples: Sprinkle the dry mixture over the sliced apples. Add lemon juice and gently toss until the apples are evenly coated.

Cook the Filling: In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the coated apple slices to the skillet.

Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are slightly softened and the mixture becomes syrupy.

Cool the Filling: Remove the skillet from heat and allow the apple filling to cool to room temperature. This will ensure that your pie crust doesn't become soggy when baking.

Use as Desired: Once cooled, your apple pie filling is ready to be used. Spoon it into your prepared pie crust, and top with another crust or crumb topping, as desired.

Bake and Enjoy: Follow your favorite apple pie recipe for baking instructions, or simply bake the pie according to your crust's directions, usually at 375°F (190°C) for about 45-50 minutes.
